Peaceful Bratislava

The Slovakian capital, Bratislava, is still manageably sized, and has remained off the beaten track for most tourists. The city is nevertheless nicely invigorating and offers a very worthwhile option for a small and unusual city holiday.

Top Club Bratislava tours include flights to Vienna. You can easily continue to Bratislava by bus directly from the airport or by train from the city center. How about experiencing both wonderful, yet different cities during your visit by adding extra nights in Vienna to your itinenary.

The Habsburgs and budget-conscious prices
The links between Slovakia and the Czech Republic are well known, but Slovakia is actually much more closely associated with Hungary, which was the ruling power there for 900 years. A tour of Bratislava could well begin at the old castle overlooking the Danube and from the Old Town, where one gains a good impression of the country's shared history with Hungary and the Habsburgs.

The prices in Bratislava are still very low, even in the city's restaurants. You will not necessarily find all of these on the English language lists provided to tourists. It is also worth keeping an open mind and tasting the local specialities, such as goat's milk cheese and potatoes. For the less adventurous the city does have the usual crop of international eating houses such as Chinese restaurants and Italian pizza houses.

To Budapest, Vienna or the Tatra Mountains
Bratislava is also an excellent departure point for quick excursions into Austria and Hungary. The trains are clean and tickets are very reasonably priced. A trip on a hydrofoil ship is also a good way to view the scenery of the Danube.
