A dozen faces of Tokyo

Modern Tokyo is a dazzling combination of skyscrapers, major commercial and shopping centres, traditional Japanese character and splendid flowery gardens. The city has no real centre, but instead consists of dozens of districts.

Quality purchases and Japanese culture
The city of Tokyo is huge and can be difficult to grasp, but the swift and handy metro is a great way to get around. The Ginza district is one favourite with tourists, providing a harmonious blend of department stores, restaurants, cafés and tearooms.

For a taste of traditional Japanese culture try the Ueno district in northern Tokyo, which is also home to most of the city's museums. Besides its innumerable small gardens, Ueno has an incredibly beautiful park that is the largest recreational area in the city.

Epicureanism and a clash of cultures
When you prefer to eat well the best place to go is Roppong. This is a place where you can easily spend the whole evening, as this evergreen district has long specialised in providing excellent dinner and dance venues and music clubs. The city's nightlife proper centres on Shinjuku, where revellers can also take note of the extraordinary contrast between the traditional and contemporary Japanese characters. Some street fashions show the height of imagination to put it mildly.
